Does this sound like Gestational Diabetes?

Hi.  I have been tired lately, but haven't given it much thought as I have been going to bed between 10:30 and 11 and my son is waking me up by 5:30 or 6.  I thought I just wasn't getting enough sleep.  However, my cousin, who had a baby last August and had GD throughout, wanted me to borrow her testing kit and test my blood sugar.  The first morning before I ate anything it was 102; the second morning it was 93.  When I checked it two hours after I ate lunch, it was 129.  I was quite pleased because I fell within the normal range, but my cousin said that is normal for a non pregnant person.  She said anything over 90 in the morning is considered GD.  Is this true?  I am freaking out.

Also, does anyone have any good books to recommend about gestational diabetes and following a GD diet?  Thanks.

So far in the mornings my readings have been around 70 to 80 but i don't know if I would worry about it yet. Your Dr. should be doing your glucose test with in the next couple of weeks so you will know then for sure. As far as diet keeping a good eye on your calorie intake and cutting down on sugar is good. My Dr. has me on an 1800 calorie diet and I don't drink soda, eat ice cream, cake, candy and stuff that has high sugar. Pretty much all the stuff you crave when your pregnant LOL! I haven't been to good about restricting my carb intake but a lot of the women who have talked to dietitians say that thats a good thing to do to. I hope it helps but like I said I wouldn't worry to much until you have your test done.

I currently have gestational diabeties and take insulin 3 times a day.I awas told the following as far as blood sugar numbers are allowed:

Fasting sugar (when waking up) should be between 60-90 to be normal

After all meals it should be between 100-129 to be normal

I hope this helps as I was told this both by my dietician & doctors (OB & high risk).

    Good luck to you

Hi.  Thanks for the information.  When I got the numbers I listed earlier, I was at my mom's and eating total junk--ice cream, cup cakes, pizza, etc.  Now I am back from my vacation and eating normal.  When I took my blood sugar this morning 2 hours after breakfast, it was 87.  Two hours after lunch it was 93, so I am hoping it is okay.  I'll start monitoring it in the morning for the next few days.  At any rate, I guess I should not eat too much junk anyway.
