We recycle everything possible.  My boys love to use cardboard boxes to make tents and forts to play in.  My boys also like to color on paper grocery bags and use it as wrapping paper on gifts they are giving.

I put on a load of laundry (cold water, green detergent) before breakfast to conserve energy, then hang out entire load to dry outdoors and bring it in later in the day.  This saves on our energy costs, but also lightens the load on the environment.  We also use washcloths to wipe surfaces and cloth napkins, to reduce paper waste and production.

After making pasta I save the water, let it cool, then use it to water my plants.  We have a pot with a strainer insert so I just leave the pot of water on the stove to cool.

We use cloth napkins and a push mower.

I've been doing a lot of things to go green, like using canvas bags at the store, using cloth napkins, reusable water bottles, eco-friendly cleaning products, and have begun to use cloth diapers.  It's a hard pill to swallow (especially for myself) but my biggest tip would be to do less shopping and consume less.  For many of us, shopping is a pasttime but when you think about all the resources and transportation that go into producing consumer goods, buying less would really help the environment.

One of the ways that my family tries to be environmentally friendly is by timing our showers to see who can finish the fastest!  We have cut water usage drastically.

We have a big garden in the backyard, with veggies, fruits and herbs. It is great exercise, a lot less expensive, encourages healthy choices, not to mention all the ways it helps the enivornment. We will teach our little one all the ways that having our own garden helps to save the environment and keeps us healthy.

I'm having an eco-friendly baby shower. We'll serve healthy, organic food on real dishes. On the (recycled paper) invitations, guests are encouraged to forgo traditional wrapping paper and instead use blankets, boxes, or nothing at all. They'll also be encouraged to donate their own gently used baby items instead of buying new.

My hubby and I both launched an office recycling program at work for bottles/can/plastics etc. We are also working with teh building to do the paper recycling, since our office building just throws away the shredded paper. We did the same for the apartment building too. If you don't have recycle bins in your building you can call your city recycling program and they will provide them.

We compost and got rid off our paper towels. That was tough, but feels great.
