I went to the doctor today and from a sonogram I had done 2 days ago the doctor saw my baby had a cyst in his head. im 19 weeks pregnant.. my doctor gave me an apptointment with genetics to ask me my family's health history and my bfs... they are giving me the choice of getting that thing where they stick a needle through  your belly button.. has anyone else gone through this???????? 

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU.  I WENT TO THE E.R. LAST WEDNESDAY AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE AN OVARIAN CYST. I KNOW ITS NOT THE SAME THING BUT ITS STILL SCARY. I HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YOU.

Was it by a chance called a choroid plexus cyst?   I am pregnant with a baby that has one too.    According to my obgyn most doctors do not even bother with amniocentesis anymore with this.   There used to be evidence that your baby having that led to chromosome deformities.  But, they found that it is no longer true and that it goes away by I think the 28th week of pregnancy.   If I were you and this is the kind of cyst that he has I would get a second opinion from another obgyn before putting yourself through that.   I think that your obgyn has the outdated data.      Unless it is a really big one it is nothing serious and like I said it goes away later on pregnancy.  But, seriously if that is the type of cyst he has I would look into another obgyn if I were you.

AS THE LADY ABOVE STATED, THEY WERE ORIGIANALLY THOUGHT TO BE A GOOD INDICATOR OF CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITIES.  THEY ARE PRESENT IN TRISOMY 21 AND 18 CASES, HOWEVER, THERE ARE OTHER MARKERS THAT ARE PRESENT. THEY USUALLY DISAPPEAR, MEANING THE BRAIN GROWS AROUND THEM AND THEY CAN NO LONGER BE DETECTED, OR IT IS ABSORBED INTO THE BRAIN. MY BABY ALSO HAS ONE, WE ARE SCHEDULED FOR C SECTION IN SIX DAYS.  MY DR EXPLAINED ALL OF THIS TO ME AND EXPLAINED THAT HE WOULD LET THE PEDIATRICIANS KNOW AND THEY WOULD SCAN HIS BRAIN AFTER BIRTH JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT IT HAD GONE AWAY BUT THAT IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT UNLESS IF IT WERE LARGE. MY SON'S CYST IS 2MM, AND THEY FOUND NO OHTER MARKERS TO INDICATE TRISOMY 21 OR 18 SO THE DR IS CONFIDENT THAT IT IS NORMAL.  YOU CAN GO TO CHOROIDPLEXUSCYST.ORG FOR MORE INFORMATION AND I WILL KEEP A POST ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH MINE SO THAT MAYBE IT WILL HELP EASE SOME OF YOU GUYS WORRIES.
