    Round Ligament Pain?

Has anyone experienced round ligament pain? If yes, how bad is it for you ladies?

I called my doctor last night because I've been experiencing pain in my lower abdomen/groin area, and it wasn't getting any better throughout the day. He suspected it was round ligament pain, and suggested I take tylenol, stay off my feet whenever I could, and go to the hospital if it gets worse. I suppose it hasn't gotten any worse then yesterday, but it still hurts a lot! I can't stand up straight, and it is painful to move (getting up/down, picking up my legs, walking, etc). It's a constant ache kind of pain that won't go away. I don't want to wait hours upon hours in the emergency room if it's not warranted, but I didn't experience this during my first pregnancy, and I'm a little confused.

Yesterday I was able to take it easy since my husband was home, but I won't be able to take it easy again until Saturday. During the week, my husband works afternoons/nights and our three year-old daughter doesn't exactly understand the concept of mommy taking it easy...lol.

I'm 21 weeks - I know it's different for everyone, but how long does round ligament pain typically last? Is this one of the joys of pregnancy that I get to look forward to until I deliver or is this something that might last a few days at a time?

Any advice will help - thanks!

Hey, Jessica, I am also experiencing it.   It is not as severe as yours sounds, but it is there and somedays it is worse than others.  I try to relax and sometimes take a warm bath and it helps relax my muscles.  From what I have been feeling and what I have read, it comes and goes.

Feel better soon...the joys of pregnancy.  =)

I had a lot of round ligament pain during my first pregnancy. It came and went and it definitely had to do with activity level. I was running throughout my pregnancy, so what really helped was wearing more supportive clothing. I know some of the contraptions are awkward, but they do help in supporting the baby and easing the strain on the round ligaments.

     Hope that helps. Good luck.

I know how you feel! I had it with both of my 1st two pregnancies, but typically not until around 8 months. I am already having problems with this one.Mine hurts right where my leg and groin come together so walking is excrutiating! I am also having sciatic nerve problems, so it hurts in my back, butt and down my leg. Typically I will have a couple of bad days in a row and then be fine for a few and then the cycle starts all over again. It sucks! I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone in the pain department.

I went to the ER with round ligament pain in the earlier part of my pregnancy. They told me just to take it easy as much as I could and take a warm bath when you can. The pain should go away soon but you never know. It's your belly stretching to accommadate the growing baby. Take some Tylenol if you have to. I have found that it works for me. I take a low dose that the doctor prescribed though so I don't take a lot of it.
