    Twins?!?!

I am 31 years old, mother of two.  I went into the hospital with some slight bleeding in my 6th week of pregnancy with my 3rd (at least I thought).  They did an ultrasound and SURPRISE!  Identical twins.  I am now in my 9th week of pregnancy and still have a little spotting here and there and had 3 ultrasounds in between to make sure everything is o.k.  They can't explain the little bit of blood but both babies are fine and growing normally.  I have 4.5 and 2.5 year old boys and the pregnancies were very normal with nothing to report.  I'm a little paranoid this go around.  Does anyone have any suggestions to calm my nerves?  I don't go back until week 11 or 12 for more testing and ultrasounds.  They keep telling me the blood is normal and nothing to worry about...but I can't help it!  Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.

oh my GOSH! what huge (and happy) news!!

    congratulations!!

what kinds of things are you looking for to calm your nerves? yoga and deep breathing exercises can help quite a bit (but check with your doc before taking on the yoga)..... prenatal massage can also be a huge help -- just make sure that you find someone who is actually licensed in prenatal work.

We have a couple articles and videos on the site that cover both topics, so it might be worth peeking at. Let me know if you want links and I'll get them to you.

We also have a blossoming community of twin mommies on our BabyTV message boards -- there are some great women over there who have seen and done it all, so you might want to try posting there for some really great advice from seasoned pros. (And, you can log in there using the same log in that you have here, so you don't have to register for another site or anything like that). Here's the link:

    Oh Ginabu, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You've got a world of wonder awaiting you! (Challenge, yes, but lots of glee too!)

I was absolutely BESET with paranoia during my plural pregnancy and made the mistake of doing too much internet sleuthing (re: medical sites) and not enough internet empathy seeking! I also made the mistake of reading some books that rather than bolster me with powerful "knowledge" scared me more than helped.

One of the most reassuring things I learned to do was to call my ob-gyn's office with any and every "concern"---whether I had a legitimate cause for alarm (of which there were VERY few, despite the books that warned me about complication potential galore) or merely a need for some hormonal talking down. I too bled in the first trimester...as late as 13 weeks. My docs indicated that a multiple pregnancy tends to put some additional duress on on the cervix (which of course is logical) and capillaries "down there" break with great frequency. BUT, again, always call your doc...it's what they're there for!

You might want to consider joining (or visiting a meeting) a local Moms of Multiples group in your area. You can visit the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs and pop in your zip code and find the closest group to you. I'm guessing most will offer some "real-world" proof that twin pregnancy can, and usually does, work out A-OK!

You can always come here and I'll try to offer any support and encouragement I can! :)
    Many, many congratulations to you!

    Re: Twins?!?!

I had a similar experience.  I'm also the mother of two girls, had spotting at 7 weeks.  Had an ultrasound and WHOA! there's two babies in there.  My doctor is going to be seeing me every two weeks for the duration.  He just told me to take it easy and the spotting has finally, mostly, gone away (3 weeks later....).  I am still freaking out about raising twins in addition to my 5 and 3 year olds.  Luckily, I have a wonderful and supportive husband and he keeps telling me that worrying about it now won't help us when they finally get here.  I know that in my head, but have a hard time not worrying.

Let me know how your pregnancy progresses.
