Hiya.  My name is Jessica and I just gave birth to my son, Evan, at 29weeks 5 days.  He was 2.6lbs, and 14 inches long.  I can definately relate and would love someone to talk to who is going through what I am going through.

Hi there.  I'm new here and I was just wondering how your babies were doing that were born at 29 weeks.  I'm now 30 weeks but this last week I had a bit of a scary day.  Everytime I would get up to do something I would have a contraction.  Needless to say, I didn't do much of anything that day.  I know chances of survival at this point are pretty good, but I would like to wait a bit longer to have my baby.  Just looking for some more info.  I haven't had another day like that since, so hopefully that's a good sign.

I can definately relate.  I had twins, a boy  2 lbs and girl 1 lb 11oz at 26 1/2 weeks on Dec. 16th.  We were really shocked when I started having contractions at exactly 26 weeks.  I was able to hold off for a few more days.  It has been a scary, emotional time since the twins were born and we have a lot more bumps in the road ahead of us.  They will probably be in the NICU until March, the expected due date.

I was born at 26 weeks and weighed 1.14 lbs. I am now 21 and expecting my first child in June.  Besides having scars from being a preemie I also have horrible eyesight. Last summer I had to have surgery for detached retinas, but other than that I have been very healthy through out my life. Also todays technology has also come along way. Hope this helps.

This is the hard part.  The waiting and waiting and more waiting.  My son was born at 27 weeks but was the size of a 24 weeker.  He was 1lb 5oz or 590 grams, a micro-preemie.  We had a long road and got very frustered at times.  We saw babies come in and babies go home all while we were still in Nursey 1 in the NICU.  We spent three and a half long months in the NICU and I still don't know how we made it through.  We had numerous surgeries and many obsticles but we were finally able to take our baby boy home two days before Christmas 2005.  He is now 2 and a half and while we are still dealing with issues, we are a very happy normal family.  Now we are expecting baby another baby!  Just remember that its normal to be scared and feel helpless.  I found reading to my son helped me feel more like his "mommy" and his nurses swore that his sats were better when I was reading!  Now he loves books and his verbal skills are above normal!?! Keep hanging in!

Hi Christine, Congratulations! Did you have a boy or a girl? How much did he/she weigh? I know you are probably really scared and freaked out but you will all get through this. Actually, my baby was born at 26 weeks. So I know what you must be going through. The doctors/nurses all told me it would be a roller coaster ride and they were right. My little girl was in the NICU for 97 days and when she came home we had all the monitors, O2, she was on 4 different medications. She is 18 months (her real age not corrected) and just started walking and talking and is as normal as her 4 year old sister. Although at times she really presses my buttons. She has always been on her own program. So for now just take it day by day and try to get yourself on a schedule. You need to take care of yourself too. If you or anyone else who reads this wants details I'm more than happy to tell you. I don't want to bore you right now.

Re: Any preemies born at 29 weeks?

Hi, I just had a son at 29 wks 1 day on Friday June 13th.  He was put on a ventilator and it was removed within 30 hours of his birth, he is now breathing the same air you and I breathe!  He has just started taking feedings and his tummy is doing very well with that.  He was 3 lbs and 16 inches long.  I was able to hold him for the 1st time today!! I am very excited about his progress and I am pumping breast milk at least 6 times a day to take to the NICU for him.  He will not be coming home for probably another couple months, but I am enjoying getting prepared for that day.  I had him by c-section, so I am slowly but surely healing from that and actually just got home from the hospital after having been there since may 1st, but of course i will be up there a couple of times a day to drop off milk and help in the care for my son.
