I had the privilege of participating in a really fun co-ed, family baby shower. Joe had only been to a few baby showers and was a bit apprehensive about the games. The last shower had a lot of baby food tasting and he wasn’t a big fan to the point that we decided to make our own baby food after that shower.
(I considered it a public service announcement for those of us that didn’t know better. Some baby food is absolutely disgusting! If you haven’t tasted the food that you plan to feed your baby I recommend doing so, you might be surprised. YUCK!)
Fortunately we did not eat any baby food at this shower; they served a very nice lunch with Mojitos. The Mojito was also available in a tasty non alcoholic version for those who did not want to partake in the Rum.
The kids all ran and played outside while the adults ate lunch and sat down for games and presents.
We had been asked to bring a baby picture of ourselves and gave them to the hostess when we arrived. She took the photos and put them on poster board with numbers. We were given a sheet of paper with a list of names. She asked us to write the number of the baby picture that we thought matched the person.
It was interesting to see the people who looked the same and those who didn’t. Even the men participated, laughed, and enjoyed the game. It was a really neat idea and fun to see the baby pictures.
Next she handed out Bingo cards and each square represented a baby present. It had squares for crib, bottle, bib, high chair and so on. We were given a stamp and told that the first to get Bingo would win a prize.
As the presents were being opened, people would yell out "open the blue bag," knowing that it held their Bingo winning baby gift. I had never seen such excitement for presents and then, out came a resounding "BINGO!" Everyone turned, looked at the guy who had won and proceeded to pelt him with tiny mints. He laughed as the hostess handed him a prize.
We had a really great time at the baby shower and enjoyed the food and Mojitos. Bingo was a big hit and everyone kept commenting on how fun it was to see all of the baby pictures.
Kudos to a wonderful, fun and inventive party!
Off to make another Mommy Milestone.
