Simmons Kids Recalls Crib Mattresses Due to Entrapment Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Simmons Kids Crib Mattresses

Units: About 20,000

Manufacturer: Simmons Kids, a division of The Simmons Manufacturing Co., LLC of Atlanta, Ga.

Hazard: Some of the crib mattresses can measure smaller than the 27 1/4 inch minimum width requirement for cribs, creating a gap between the mattress and crib side rails, posing an entrapment hazard to infants.

Incidents/Injuries: Simmons Kids and CPSC have received one report of a 6-month old baby becoming wedged between the mattress and crib’s frame. The baby was removed from the crib by the parent without injury.

Description: The recalled mattresses involve open coil crib mattresses manufactured between July 1, 2006 and March 23, 2008 with a color label attached to the top or side of the mattress that has the following model names:

The crib mattresses also have a law tag that is sewn into the edge of the mattress. The law tag has the date of manufacture and in most cases will contain one of the following model numbers: H59044.15.0014, M59082.15.0002, M59027.15.0002 or M59065.15.0006. Pocketed Coils® and Simmons Kids or Simmons Juvenile Products crib mattresses manufactured before July 1, 2006 or after March 23, 2008 are not included in the recall.

Sold at: Pottery Barn Kids and nursery furniture retailers from July 2006 through May 2008 for between $100 and $150.

Remedy: Consumers should measure the width of their mattress using a reliable measuring device, such as a yard stick or tape measure, by removing all outer coverings, placing mattress on floor and measuring the width near the middle, from the outside edge of the tape binding to the opposite side of the mattress. Consumers should immediately stop using the mattress if it measures less than 27 1/4 inches and contact Simmons Kids to receive a free replacement mattress.

Hazard: Surface paint on the shoe and pants of the rider toy contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Description: This recall includes a battery operated cowboy riding a horse toy. The model number 8610B is located on the product packaging. The horse and rider together measure about 8.5 inches in height by 7.5 inches in length. The rider is wearing blue pants and a red shirt and the horse is brown. Only Little Rider Toys with UPC code 603678086101 printed on the product packaging are included in the recall.

Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

Description: The recalled garments are brown corduroy jackets with a pink hood and pink sequins on the front pockets. “Squeeze Kids” and style number 4JZ642FK are printed on the care label sewn into the back collar area of the garment. The sweatshirts were sold in girls’ sizes small (7/8), medium (10), large (12/14) and x-large (16).

Baby Bottle and Food Warmers Recalled by Munchkin Due to Fire Hazard

Description: This recall involves the Munchkin Deluxe Bottle and Food Warmer with Pacifier Cleaning Basket 2-in-1 Design, model #13301 and lot number TP-1487. The product is used to warm food and bottles of various sizes. The set includes a main basket, a lift-out basket, an adapter ring, and a measuring cup. “Munchkin” is located on the front of the warmer and “TP-1487” is located on the bottom. Only warmers bearing lot number “TP-1487” are included in this recall.

Graco Children's Products Announces a Safety Notice for the CarGo(TM) Booster Car Seat

EXTON, Pa., March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Graco Children's Products Inc. today announced a Safety Notice regarding a labeling non-compliance issue for a limited number of its CarGo(TM) Booster Car Seats manufactured from January 9, 2007 through March 3, 2008.

The labeling non-compliance issue notice is the result of an incorrect NHTSA vehicle safety hotline number that appears on models of the following CarGo Booster Car Seats: 8487BELI, 8487SMP, 8487WBR, 8686ROS, 8689FAR, 8D01ZPH, 8D02SYC, 8D03WIK, 8D04SDN, 8D05NWY, and 8D10CCE. The model number and date of manufacture can be found on the lower back of the car seat. These seats were sold in mass merchandisers, specialty retailers and department stores throughout the United States.

If a consumer calls the incorrect phone number printed on the affected models, they will hear a message that the number is not in service at this time. We recommend consumers check their instruction manual as the NHTSA hotline number is printed correctly there. Ellaroo Recalls Infant Sling Carriers Due to Fall Hazard

Description: This recall includes Ellaroo Ring Sling baby carriers with item numbers 2101 and 2102 printed on the outside of the product box. The Ellaroo Ring Sling has a fabric carrier with two aluminum rings that is worn by the user to carry an infant up to 35 pounds. The carriers are sold in mahogany, mango stone, brasilia and malay color prints. Only sling carriers with lot numbers 03/07 and 07/04 printed on a label, under the size label, inside the Ring Sling are included in the recall.

Only rattles with date code 0907 printed on the back of the left ear of the lamb are included in the recall. The production batch code is printed in a dial format with the year in the middle of a circle and an arrow pointing to the number on the circle that indicates the month. Rattles that do not have a date code are not included in the recall.

Safety Recall Notice

Dear Combi Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor
Vehicle Safety Act.
Combi USA, Inc. of Fort Mill, SC has decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the Centre,
Centre ARB and Shuttle (Model # 8065, 8074, 8086, 8087and 8520) and associated Travel
Systems containing Centre and Shuttle (Model # 4400, 4515, 4520). This recall includes the
entire production of this model from October 2005 through December 2007. No other models are
affected.

Reason For The Recall:

Combi USA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada
recently conducted numerous laboratory tests (in many cases these tests exceeded the
requirements of the current US standard) to analyze the overall effectiveness of the Centre and
Shuttle car seats in motor vehicle frontal crashes. This test data revealed that the car seat could
potentially become separated from its base under these conditions.
Please be assured that all Centre and Shuttle car seats have consistently met existing
government safety standards. However, because of the separation during testing of vehicles in
impact frontal crashes, Combi is conducting a voluntary recall campaign with the intent of
providing car seats with enhanced protection under frontal impact crash conditions. Combi USA,
Inc. has received no reports of injuries to date regarding the Centre, Centre ARB and Shuttle
Infant Restraints. Our first priority at Combi is to provide the highest level of safety and quality for
the children we protect.

What Action Should You Take?

We urge you to contact us to obtain the free retrofit kit. To place an order, please visit our website

Munire Furniture Recalls Cribs Due to Fall Hazard

Hazard: The cribs fail to meet the federal safety standards for cribs. The four support brackets on the mattress support spring are too long. The brackets prevent the spring from lowering to the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.

Description: The cribs are wooden. The recalled cribs include: Majestic Curved Top cribs with model number 9500; Majestic Flat Top cribs with model number 9000; Essex cribs with model number 7100; Brighton/Sussex cribs with model number 9100 and Captiva cribs with model number 5100. Only cribs with manufacture dates between November 1, 2005 and November 1, 2007 are included in the recall. The crib model number is printed on the white label on the bottom inside of the right side rail. The crib manufacture date is printed on either the white label near the model number or on the white label located on the bottom of the headboard. Cribs with a green sticker on the mattress frame are not included in the recall.

Product Recall: Evenflo Infant Carseats

VANDALIA, Ohio - February 1, 2008 -- Evenflo today announced it is implementing a voluntary safety recall of its Discovery Infant Car Seat Models 390, 391, 534, 552.

Approximately one million units were produced beginning April 2005. This is based on recent laboratory tests conducted by Evenflo and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which show that this car seat could potentially become separated from its base in high impact side collisions similar to those in the tests.

As a precautionary measure, Evenflo is providing current owners of these models with a free supplemental dual-hook fastener that has proven that the seat remains attached to the base in the event of such collisions. Additionally, Evenflo is taking steps to develop future models of Discovery with enhanced safety performance. These new Discovery models will be available to consumers starting in the second quarter, 2008.

“We are parents, too, and protecting children is our core mission at Evenflo. Finally, the package fails to display the required warning instructing consumers not to tie a pacifier around a child’s neck, which would present a strangulation hazard.
