Los Angeles Salad Company, located in City of Industry, CA is recalling its "Genuine Sweet Baby Carrots" with a Sell By Date Code up to and including August 16, 2007 printed on the back of the packages because the product may be contaminated with the bacteria Shigella. Toys “R” Us, Inc. announced today that as a precautionary measure it has removed all vinyl bibs manufactured by Hamco, Inc. and its other vendors from Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us store shelves.
Because of its strong commitment to safety, Toys “R” Us voluntarily adheres to the stringent California Proposition 65 standards for its testing of vinyl baby bibs. All of its vinyl bibs are tested against these requirements every six months by an independent testing facility. These bibs, including those manufactured by Hamco, passed these rigorous tests, including as recently as May 2007. However, the company noted that stores have received shipments since that time and therefore decided to conduct additional re-testing on these items.
Based on discussions with the Consumer Product Safety Commission staff, following the agency’s own tests conducted last week on certain Hamco bibs sold by Toys “R” Us, there were no instances of any hazardous levels of lead found in these products.
In recent days, Toys “R” Us asked Bureau Veritas, a world leader in independent testing, to re-test samples of all Hamco-manufactured bibs sold by the company. Among its findings, the Bureau Veritas tests found two samples of Hamco bibs that contained lead over the strict Toys “R” Us testing requirements. As a result of inconsistent results between the company’s May 2007 and August 2007 tests, Toys “R” Us has immediately stopped sale of these items in its stores. These bibs were sold to Toys “R” Us by Hamco and marketed under the Koala Baby, Especially for Baby and Disney Baby labels.
While not aware of any concerns regarding vinyl bibs made by other manufacturers, the company has temporarily removed all vinyl bibs from its store shelves to help minimize any potential consumer confusion and as an additional precautionary measure so that the company can voluntarily re-test these products.
In addition to its rigorous testing of all products prior to shipment to its stores, Toys “R” Us has recently increased its third party re-testing of products on store shelves. The company will continue to take decisive and aggressive action in ensuring the products it sells meet only the highest quality assurance standards.
The company said that customers who wish to return vinyl bibs purchased at any time from a Toys “R” Us or Babies “R” Us store may do so and receive a full refund. For questions or additional information, customers may call 1-800-869-7787.

Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced today that it is conducting a safety recall on the Decathlon child restraint, Model Number E9L47. The recall includes production of the Decathlon from February 12, 2005 through July 31, 2007.
Under certain circumstances, when the harness adjuster strap is pulled from an extreme side angle, the bezel may separate from the child restraint shell allowing the adjuster to move out of position inside the shell housing. Under these conditions, caregivers may experience some difficulty while trying to properly harness the child to the restraint.
Extensive product testing has determined that there is no risk of the adjuster and bezel separating from the child restraint while the harness is properly positioned and the child is snugly secured during transit. There have been no reported accidents or injuries.
To address this issue, Britax will send all owners two push rivet fasteners to secure the adjuster to the child restraint. This quick modification will prevent the possibility of having the adjuster move out of position inside of the shell housing. Registered owners of the Decathlon child restraint will automatically be notified and sent complete instructions and push rivet fasteners by mail beginning August 17, 2007. To assist in this process video instructions are available on the Britax website, at www.britaxusa.com. The modification will take less than five minutes to complete.
Until the push rivet fasteners are received and installed, this child restraint is safe to use as long as the bezel is securely positioned within the child restraint. Britax recommends that caregivers pull the harness adjuster strap straight out from the restraint and parallel to the ground when tightening the harness to secure the child. This will minimize the chance of the bezel separating from the child restraint. Should the bezel become loose, consumers should contact Britax.
Decathlon child restraints manufactured from February 12, 2005 through July 31, 2007 are affected by this recall. The date of manufacturer and model number may be found on the white label located near the top of the restraint on the child's left hand side under the cover.
Owners of the Decathlon that have not registered their product should contact the Britax information line, toll free at 1-800-683-2045 or register online at www.BritaxUSA.com. Consumers may also order repair kits online at decathlonrecall.com.
Even if the restraint is operating normally, all owners of this restraint are strongly advised to make the required modification once the fasteners are received.
Britax has made manufacturing changes that resolve this issue in Decathlon restraints manufactured after August 1, 2007.
For more information, contact the Britax information line, 1-800-683-2045.

Mattel Inc. has recalled about 7.3 million Polly Pocket play sets. Small magnets inside the dolls and accessories can come loose. The magnets can be found by young children and swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.
This recall is an expansion of a November 2006 recall in which 2.4 million toys were removed from shelves. Since the previous recall announcement, Mattel has received more than 400 additional reports of magnets coming loose. CPSC was aware in the first recall announcement of 170 reports of the magnets coming out of the recalled toys. There had been three reports of serious injuries to children who swallowed more than one magnet. All three suffered intestinal perforations that required surgery.
The recalled Polly Pocket play sets contain plastic dolls and accessories that have small magnets. The magnets measure 1/8 inch in diameter and are embedded in the hands and feet of some dolls, and in the plastic clothing, hairpieces and other accessories to help the pieces attach to the doll or to the doll’s house. The model number is printed on the bottom of the largest pieces on some of the play sets. Products manufactured after November 1, 2006 and are currently on store shelves are not included in this recall.
